As we all head into the weekend, we’re happy to share a few of our favorite new releases, out this week (in splendid alphabetical order). The write-ups are all kept brief and bite sized, snippets to catch your interest. There’s a lot of great music out every week and these are just some of the many we think you should check out.

After four albums of well crafted folk, Billie Marten's gorgeous new record Dog Eared, offers a magnificent evolution. The UK based songwriter recorded the album in New York with a host of guest collaborators (including Sam Evian and Núria Graham among others), resulting in a record both experimental and gentle. She's still writing brilliant folk music, but the songs now burst to life in vivid colors, taking a kaleidoscopic approach that includes elements of psych, soul, and jazzy art pop splendor.

Time to Rot, the debut album from Sweden's Filth, emerges from the catacombs of death metal oozing and infested. With riffs that are endlessly bludgeoning and a rhythmic assault that resides firmly in mid-tempo ugliness, the trio dig deep into the primordial carnage, opting for dismal grooves and cavernous weight over blistering solos or blinding dexterity. Filth (appropriately) embrace the disgusting and the grotesque throughout, their mountainous and monolithic churn inching its way into the putrid abyss.

Seven years after their self-titled breakthrough, Montclair's Forth Wanderers have returned with what could be their best album yet. The Longer This Goes On is a subtly complex record, an indie rock album that refuses to settle for the same ol' structural complacency. The songs are packed with nuance, collapsing and expanding to give the music dynamics and a sense of the unpredictable (without losing any of the band’s accessibility). Ava Trilling and co. are in fine form as they work through anxieties with sprightly shifts and breezy melodies.

While Raekwon's Only Built 4 Cuban Linx... (one of the greatest hip-hop albums of all time) celebrates it's 30th anniversary this year, the Chef isn't just looking back, he's looking to the future. The Emperor's New Clothes, Raekwon's first new album in eight years, isn't a nostalgia trip, its a sincere reminder that Rae's voice and delivery stand in a lane all their own. His bars are sharp, his slang immaculately creative, and his flows forever raw. Additionally, the features are focused and the production is well suited to an album that places Raekwon and his cohort's artful darts front and center.

Inspired by a trio of producers, ShrapKnel, the progressive hip-hop duo of Curly Castro and PremRock, are set to release three records this summer, each an album length collaboration with one of the aforementioned beat makers. First up is Lincoln Continental Breakfast, pairing the group with Detroit's Raphy (of Bruiser Brigade). With futuristic loops and sci-fi tinted boom bap, the production is equal parts visionary and hard as nails, a perfect landscape for ShrapKnel to deconstruct, their elastic rhymes delivered with a true reverence for hip-hop.

Live In Stockholm does a great job of capturing the energy of a Split System's show, the recording placing us (the listener) right in front of the rattling speakers. Captured in 2023, just prior to the release of the band's great second album (Vol. 2), the Melbourne garage punk band tear through tracks from that record, their debut, and beyond, kicking up dust and sweat with an audible electricity. With a set comprised entirely of barn-burners, it's a living document of Split System's ramshackle spark.
