Last year saw the release of Poolblood aka Maryam Said’s sophomore EP, Yummy, released via Shamir’s own Accidental Popstar Records. which was led by the infectious single “I’m Sorry”. The song is lush piece of indie-centric pop, that opens into a majestic swell that would be a radio hit on an alternative timeline. The track is grandiose and you’d be hard pressed not to find something to love about it. Nearly eight months since its release, Poolblood is taking a look back and revisiting “I’m Sorry” with a reimagined sound, joined together this time with Louie Short and Eliza Niemi (ex-Mauno). The track is out today on Bandcamp via both Accidental Popstar and Vain Mina. All proceeds will go to various funds, including, Black Queer & Intersectional Collective, NABL Black and Indigenous Go Fund Me, and more!

On this stripped back version, the song shifts from the epic original to something far more haunting and gentle. Over sparse strings and arrangements, the trio built the song with gorgeous harmonies and an immersive atmosphere. The sweeping cellos, piano, and flute, Poolblood transforms the song into something immaculate, cutting away massive guitars and distotion in favor of a heartbreaking bliss, one that relies as much as open space as it does the comfort in their voice.

Speaking about the song, Said offered:

“This rendition is very much the adult version of a song that has grown with me through the last couple of years. It was beautiful to watch it be done 3 different ways, including this rendition being its final existence. I’m so happy and to work with friends who I am very much inspired by and always in awe by, was so fulfilling.”

It’s stunning. Give it a listen and get a copy on Bandcamp for a good cause.
