It’s only July but Philadelphia’s Nyxy Nyx is getting ready to release their third album of the year. You know what they say about idle hands. All A Dream is due out September 4th via BLIGHT. Records (Tadzio, Luna Honey, Br’er), a record that has been described as the project’s most collaborative to date. With a massive catalog built over the year, its an understatement to say that Nyxy Nyx never slow down, but each release is a bit different, with mastermind Brian Reichert scratching at whatever itches in the moment. Recorded remotely with contributions from members of Sun Organ, Luna Honey, A Sunny Day In Glasgow, and more, it’s a vibrant album that offers a directness rarely seen on Nyxy Nyx records.

Lead single “Untamed Hair” was initially released as a demo back in December, offering a preview for the album (though two full lengths have been released since). Now the song makes its presence known once more in full glory, finding Reichert paired together with the entirety of Washington, DC’s Luna Honey. The song seemingly deals with a sense of longing, pining for one you can never have. Reichert sings, “Climb wild waves of untamed hair straight into the sun / but I'm only scum skimmed off the pan / thrown carelessly into the trash / I will never reach her wild waves of untamed hair.” The music rests somewhere between dream pop, new wave, and shoegaze, floating by sustained progressions and a mechanical beat that feels surreal yet structured.
