Grace Sings Sludge - "In Spite of Doom" | Post-Trash Exclusive Premiere

by Mary Kate Crowe (@MaryKate_Crowe)

On Grace Sings Sludge's most recent single "In Spite of Doom," Grace Cooper uses a steady jazz beat paired with bass and an achingly beautiful voice to create an apocalyptic love song. Cooper, a Bay Area scene veteran, also plays in The Sandwitches and has been involved in other groups over the years including Sonny Smith, Kelley Stoltz, Magic Trick, and Fresh and Onlys. Life With Dick, Grace Sings Sludge's forthcoming album will be released June 2nd on Empty Cellar Records

The track's winding bass riff works as the perfect backdrop for Cooper's impressive vocal performance, which mounts to a crescendo of horns at the song's close. Her use of cryptic lyrics and a relaxed tempo grant "In Spite of Doom" a mysterious aura.

Grace Sings Sludge's Life With Dick is out June 2nd on Empty Cellar Records.
