Lee Fields - "Sentimental Fool" | Album Review
Lee Fields is nothing short of a living legend. Dubbed “Little JB” for his likeness to James Brown, the singer continues to carry the torch of soul and funk on his invigorating 19th studio album Sentimental Fool. Fields’ latest regroups The Dap-Kings, lead by Gabriel Roth aka Bosco Mann, for a pointedly classic occasion.
Red Scarves - "Ghost Hunter" | Album Review
Chicago’s Red Scarves take an imaginative and subversive take on clean cut guitar rock. The immensely talented four piece always seem to reach their destination, but they are intent on taking the scenic route to get there. A winding passage, a turn of phrase; the band chases down beauty taking the long way home.
Gut Health - "Electric Party Chrome Girl" EP | Post-Trash Premiere
The Melbourne post-punk outfit creates flashing art pop and whip-smart dance grooves, pulling influence from its members’ backgrounds in jazz, punk, and rave culture. Electric Party’s sub-three minute tracks cut to the chase, sticking to a superb, hip-shaking formula while taking subversive, non-adhesive notes from no wave.
Lipsticism - "Worth" | Post-Trash Premiere
Lipsticism is Chicago-based electronic musician Alana Schachtel. The project has a new record via Earth Libraries on 12/2 called Two Mirrors Facing Each Other, and today we’ve got a sneak preview of the accompanying visuals to “Worth.” The video follows a digital humanoid and their stuffed rabbit reanimated by a spectral mirror hand.

Mo Troper - "MTV" | Album Review
Old Joy - "Feelin Far" Music Video | Post-Trash Premiere
Back in May we premiered the excellent double-sided single “Feelin’ Far” b/w “Everybody” from the increasingly prolific Chicago project Old Joy. It’s been a busy year for frontman Alex Reindl, who has since released the Go Away Evil EP while gigging aplenty. Today, we’re excited to premiere the accompanying “Feelin’ Far” video.
Alayne May - "Beast" | Post-Trash Premiere
Alayne May’s exceptional songwriting is in revelatory form and if the singles are any indications, this record is shaping up to be real special. No doubt a choice cut, “Beast” contains a chorus boasting an inescapable hook where May’s twangy vocal intonations and moving chord progression propel the song into ear worm territory.
The Human Fly - "A New Perspective" | Post-Trash Premiere
Philly/NYC five piece The Human Fly are gearing up to release their third studio album Thrill of Living on August 5 via the always reliable Dead Definition. While it feels like Robert Mathis is the primary songwriter, The Human Fly is very much a band and Thrill of Living is their tightest and most ambitious project yet.
Fonteyn - "These Days" | Post-Trash Premiere
The Salt Lake City by UK songwriter holds her own, and “These Days” is a sunny, 70s pop doozy. All the melodies hit easy - they take the turns they lean into. Fonteyn’s songwriting sensibility is on full display and her patience and nuance is palpable; the key change in the last twenty seconds is tasteful and the opposite of gimmicky.
Old Joy - "Feelin' Far" + "Everybody" | Post-Trash Premiere
Each track exemplifies Alex Reindl’s knack of working songs into both solo and full band arrangements. “Feelin’ Far” plays like an all-timer party, “Everybody” like the sobering comedown. The first track is an expanding, upbeat piano tune with a full band breakdown. The acoustic B-side is raw and grounding, an honest and melancholic counterpoint.
Spring Silver Discusses Community Collaboration, Emotional Songwriting, 2008, and more | Feature Interview
I Could Get Used to This sounds like nothing you’ll hear this year, as Spring Silver continues to push their sound through distinct stylistic choices and lean, undeniable songwriting. Post-Trash was lucky enough to chat with K Nkaza about community collaboration, emotions in songwriting, the year 2008 and more.
Motherhood - "Ripped Sheet" | Post-Trash Premiere
New Brunswick’s Motherhood are back. The Canadian outfit’s just-announced Winded follows up 2019’s Post Trash-approved Dear Bongo. Today, we’re excited to premiere the video for “Ripped Sheet,” the upcoming record’s most clear cut punk number that follows lyricist Brydon Crain’s progression toward sobriety, happiness and “dry land.”
Posmic - "My Oh Mind" | Post-Trash Premiere
The Baltimore/DC project formed in late 2019, sticking together through a global pandemic and many, many, wildly convenient MARC train rides. Sun Hymns is the name of their brief and easy debut and today we’re premiering “My Oh Mind,” a warm and steady lo-fi pop number that shows how Posmic makes things look easy.
Spring Silver - "O Kristi" | Post-Trash Premiere
We’re premiering the Jhariah, Marco Sah, and Sam Goblin-featuring track “O Kristi,” a cutting punk number aimed at South Dakota governor Kristi Noem. A former South Dakota resident themself, they express disappointment and rightfully criticizes the representative’s voluntary decision to turn the state into a record-breaking COVID Petri dish.
Godcaster | Feature Interview
While technically an extension of 2020’s Long Haired Locusts, last year’s Saltergasp presented the band in a different light, subverting the tongue-in-cheek funk rock gestures of their debut into thrashing, high tempo motifs and noise-scrambled shreds of wailing riffs. The band spoke about their songwriting, playing live, and the future of their sound.
Sonny Falls - “Wringing Out My Brain” | Post-Trash Premiere
Sonny Falls is back with the first single from their just announced full length Stoned, Beethoven Blasting. “Wringing Out My Brain” is the first preview from the Chicago-based project led by Ryan “Hoagie Wesley” Ensley. Written after nine months of no-gigs-a-go-go, “Wringing” is an impulsive celebration of collaborative creativity.
ROCK - "ROCK" | Album Review
ROCK formed after MALK’s tweet and Chris Adams’ (Hood/Bracket) reply. The former was in search of a vocalist and the latter obliged. The proposed task: MALK was looking for autotune vocals on a “10 track Elliot Smith/Alex G album.” Adams said ‘done’ and does a proper good job and more on the duo’s excellent self-titled debut.
Nina Ryser - "Paths of Color" | Album Review
The musician’s sixth solo album is deeply personal and has only further resonated since initial binge. The record is drawn from just below the tip of the iceberg, Nina Ryser’s unabated creativity breaching the surface with childlike curiosity and expression, a sign of an artist truly in touch with their craft.
